Quantum physics and shiatsu: “Quantum Fields and Photon Propagation: The Physical Foundations of Quantum Technologies”

FABRIZIO COCCETTI

This talk aims to provide a rigorous illustration of the pillars of modern physics, starting from the concept of the quantum field as a fundamental description of microscopic reality. The mechanism of photon propagation – understood as quanta of the electromagnetic field – will be explored in depth to understand how light interacts and moves through space. Subsequently, the fundamental operating principles underlying modern quantum machines will be examined, demonstrating how the manipulation of individual quantum states now enables the encoding and processing of information. The aim of the session is to provide a clear overview, based entirely on empirical evidence and the theoretical formalism of physics, of the quantum phenomena that are redefining the boundaries of contemporary technology.

Fabrizio Coccetti, a physicist, is a Senior Researcher at the Enrico Fermi Research Centre in Via Panisperna, Rome. Since July 2024, he has also been a member of the CREF Board of Directors. His research interests focus on: computational photonics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and astroparticle physics. He has worked at SLAC, the linear accelerator at Stanford University, and subsequently at CERN in Geneva, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Fabrizio is also an expert in Monte Carlo simulations, complexity theory and big data.
